About

Who am I?

I’m Sonya — I’m a wife, mum, yogi and celebrant.

I love to share with and learn from you about what makes a good marriage. I’m happily married myself with a beautiful bub, and so very excited for couples about to embark on this amazing adventure.

My story

Our marriage journey started with an engagement in Fiji and led us to an elopement to Hawaii. On a stunning cliff top over the Pacific Ocean, against the backdrop of incredible mountain ranges at sunset, my husband and I exchanged the leis we had made for each other and spoke our vows without any notes, straight from the heart. Although far from the fanfare of a traditional wedding, professing our love and committing to each other with sincerity and solemnity in a private ceremony was perfect for us.

Why I’d love to be a part of your story

I am calm and friendly with a down-to-earth approach to life. Being honest, empathetic, insightful and non-judgemental is what I strive for in all that I do.

I’m an experienced lawyer — an added bonus when making sure a marriage is not just official, but legal. My time as a Lifeline crisis counsellor means I understand how valuable it is for people to have someone listen to and support them in this momentous time.

I’ve been a yoga teacher for several years, and I love seeing partners learn about each other’s physical and emotional strengths and differences as they tune into one another through breath and touch.

I’ve also completed Hakomi HEART training, to help couples find an even deeper emotional understanding of themselves and each other.

Becoming a marriage celebrant brought all of my interests together — it really is my dream job!

I have attended many weddings and cried with joy at them all! Big fat Greek weddings, intimate beach weddings, incredible Cambodian street weddings and an unforgettable Korean wedding where the celebrant compared the bride and groom to sushi! (Please note, sushi comparisons available only upon request)

Weddings are fun, but marriage can be hard. You grow up in so many ways, but trust me; it transforms you into a better person. Your world now includes your other half, teaching you the art of patience, understanding and love.

I would love to help you a little along the way, in this most important relationship of your life. If this sounds good, please reach out to me and let’s chat.
